“The Codex.”

The Codex is the name of the superhero I created for my Dungeons and Dragons game in high school. He was the stalwart defender of the city of Femen Khinar, and much like Superman, his alter ego worked at a famous newspaper called “The Ink Hen Frame” (the building towers behind him in the piece).

With this piece, I tried to combine superhero and medieval imagery while keeping true to the description of the character from his old character sheet. The city behind him has architectural styles from around the world, but the only “modern” thing about this city is the scale.

​Digital. Linework was created first, after which colors were added and then shading and highlights were ‘painted’ on top.
